Our client was looking for solutions for how to gracefully hide the utility covers in their backyard. At the same time, they needed a lightweight solution that could be easily moved should they need to access the utilities under the covers.

First, we were able to procure a rock from the area that matched a shape that the client liked. Second, we recreated that shape as a 3D model and scaled up the object to a size that would completely cover the utility covers. We then cut the model from multiple layers of foam and coated the “larger then life” foam rock with epoxy to use for our concrete molds. Rubber was poured onto the model to create our mold and we were able to utilize that mold multiple times to produce a number of these concrete rock sculptures for the client.. The resulting form and finishing fit into the landscaping well.
