Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) is a concrete product that uses glass fibers for reinforcement instead of steel. It is typically cast in thicknesses of 1/2″ to 3/4″. Since the fibers cannot rust like steel, there is no need for a protective concrete cover to prevent rusting. Given the thin casting thickness, GFRC typically weighs a fraction of the weight of traditional precast concrete. The dispersion of glass fibers within the GFRC mix also gives it a much higher strength to weight ratio in comparison to regular concrete or precast concrete. This strength makes it an excellent material for use in buildings that are subject to harsh conditions while also preventing cracking, chipping and water damage in the concrete itself.
